If you’re a teacher or librarian who wants to inspire the kids you teach not only to develop an interest in reading, but to become better writers themselves, I do a pretty mean school visit.
But don’t take my word for it…ask these school librarians!
When Geoff Rodkey came to our school, the students were enthralled! Our 4th and 5th graders hung on every word. Just after the performance, a teacher came to me and said, “That author was fantastic! He totally reiterated everything we’ve been teaching about writing…”
–Sheri Howard, Wilder Elementary, Pearland, TX
Geoff Rodkey’s visit with our sixth graders was one that the students and teachers won’t soon forget. His enthusiastic and humorous presentation was inspiring to the children, many of whom have declared their desire to become an author when they grow up. Thank you, Geoff, for giving our students such great inspiration to read and write.
–Elisa Barresi, Steinway Intermediate School, Long Island City, NY
Geoff’s visit to our school’s fourth and fifth graders was one of the best author visits we’ve ever had! He was energetic, inspiring, enthusiastic, and most of all, funny. How showed how real life experiences can make great writing achievable for anyone. The kids were enthralled!
–Anita Phipps, Marek Elementary, Pearland, TX
As the author of engaging books like The Tapper Twins and Chronicles of Egg series, the screenwriter of movies and TV shows (Daddy Day Care, RV, Good Luck Charlie) that your kids are almost certain to have seen and enjoyed, and a professional comedy writer with a lot of experience making audiences laugh, I can hold the attention of a group of kids long enough to sneak in some educational content, on topics like the basics of good storytelling and the best ways to find writing inspiration in their own lives.
It’s a lot of fun for the kids, and hopefully by the end of a visit, they’ll have not only learned something about writing, but been inspired to pursue goals of their own–because if my life experience has proven anything, it’s that you don’t need to be born in the right place or know the right people to be able to succeed at whatever it is you love doing.
If you’d like to schedule a visit or inquire about rates, availability, etc., drop me a line at geoff(at)geoffrodkey.com.
And if you want to kick the tires by seeing me in person first, here’s an occasionally current list of upcoming public appearances:
Saturday, September 17th — 1:00pm — Books of Wonder 18 West 18th Street, NYC — I’ll be on a panel with a bunch of other middle grade authors. Fun! Exciting! (Hopefully!)
Saturday, October 1st — 10am-4pm — Authors in the Park Book Festival, Winter Park/Orlando, FL — I’ll be giving some kind of speech, or so I’ve been led to believe.
Friday, October 21st — 4:00 pm — Jefferson Market Library, 6th Avenue at 10th Street, NYC — There will be no speech. But there might be pizza! We’ll be discussing The Tapper Twins Run for President and (hopefully! fingers crossed on this part) eating pizza.
